Blockader at the Ultimate Block Party

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

When New York City’s Central Park was transformed into “the world’s most innovative and stimulating playground” on October 3, Blockader crowd control barriers and barrier jackets were there.

With a goal of showing the importance of playful learning, the “Ultimate Block Party” attracted 50,000 attendees and featured more than two dozen unique interactive activities designed to educate and entertain kids.

Organized by Play for Tomorrow, a consortium dedicated to shedding light on the crucial role of play in children’s development and education, the event rented Blockader barriers for line management at the entrance. Barriers also delineated space around the various activities. To accessorize the barriers and make them more visually vibrant, Blockader also supplied the event with 125 barrier jackets in four different colors which featured the wording “Ultimate Block Party!: The arts and sciences of play.”

Blockader Crowd Control Barricades Demonstrate Strength at Gettysburg

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Blockader crowd control barricades helped maintain security during a demonstration held at Gettysburg National Military Park on June 19.

More than 700 Blockader barriers were set up in the park to help diffuse any potential confrontations when members of the controversial group Aryan Nations, described by the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader as “white supremacists,” held a demonstration in the park.  Counter demonstrations by groups opposed to the Aryan Nations were also held at the same time.  (more…)

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Blockader crowd control barricades made their debut in Sweden in conjunction with the royal wedding of Princess Victoria on June 19.

Blockader barriers were among the resources used by event planners and public officials to maintain order and safety during the royal procession immediately following the wedding ceremony.  Crowds estimated at 250,000 to 500,000 lined the streets of Stockholm as the princess and her husband, Daniel Westling, were driven through the city in a horse drawn carriage.  (more…)

Blockader Steel Barriers Celebrate 4th of July in Washington, D.C.

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Hundreds of Blockader crowd control barricades helped maintain safety and order during the 2010 Fourth of July celebration in Washington, D.C.  Blockader barriers were set up at various locations near the U.S. Capitol to provide crowd and pedestrian control for popular events including the “Capitol Fourth” concert and fireworks show.

An estimated 250,000 to 500,000 people attend the annual concert on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol.  This year’s concert featured the National Symphony Orchestra, Gladys Knight, Reba McIntire, Darius Rucker, David Archuleta, and John Schneider.

Because of some space reconfigurations related to the event this year, event planners realized in late June (only about a week prior to the Fourth) that they would need more barriers than had been used in previous years.  Blockader, which has long-standing relationships with the Architect of the Capitol and other federal government agencies, was able to supply 400 barricades on short notice.

New Lighter “Standard Blockader” Model Revolutionizes Economy Barrier Market

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Responding to a shifting market, in which the need for lighter-weight barriers has outpaced the demand for heavy-duty barricades necessary for serious crowd control situations, Blockader has introduced the “Standard Blockader,” a new economy-priced model specifically designed to meet the needs of the majority of today’s applications.

The Standard Blockader provides a high-quality, low-cost option for customers needing barriers for line delineation, or to simply separate pedestrians or visitors from equipment or vehicles.  Barrier strength requirements for applications such as these are not as stringent as for mass public events or police/security circumstances, so the Standard Blockader provides cost savings with a design featuring a slight reduction in the steel tubing used, and slightly slimmer uprights.

As one of the nation’s leading wholesale suppliers to the event management industry, Blockader’s barriers were chosen by the general services contractor for the G20 Summit in Pittsburgh (September 24-25, 2009). Here, the crowd control barricades are lined up in front of historic Phipps Conservatory, where world leaders gathered for the event’s opening reception and dinner.

The G20 Summit in Pittsburgh, held September 24-25, was another in a series of major national event in which Blockader crowd control products were present.

Blockader continued to fulfill its role as a wholesale supplier to event management companies which oversee high-profile events.  In this case, Blockader crowd control barricades were part of the product mix chosen by Hargrove, Inc., the general services contractor for the G20 Summit.

The most prominent and visible usage of Blockader barriers was at the event’s welcome reception and dinner hosted by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at Phipps Conservatory on September 24.  The leaders of the G20 nations and their spouses met in a setting in which Blockader barriers provided and visually conveyed a sense of security and order.  Blockader barriers were also used around the Andy Warhol Museum, where the first lady hosted a luncheon the following day. Blockader Provides All-Pro Blocking at Super Bowl

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Blockader barriers are supplied by the Pittsburgh-based Tamis Corporation, which has a long-standing relationship with long-time Super Bowl contractor Noel Lesley Event Services (located in Ashland, Oregon). Through its Nationwide Rental Program, Blockader compliments Lesley’s own supply of Blockader barricades for major events such as the Super Bowl. As a leading wholesaler to event contractors, Blockader maintains the inventory needed by suppliers such as Lesley in cases where the demand for crowd control barricades exceeds their on-hand supply.

Truckloads of Blockader barricades became part of the Super Bowl site mix, providing line management at entrances (where patrons entered security checkpoints), ticket windows, and escalator entrances and exits, as well as at pre-game fan events.

The successful 24-year track record of Noel Lesley Event Services (www.noellesley.com) as the supplier of event services to the Super Bowl, combined with Tamis’ ability to supply large quantities of crowd control barriers to major events, once again resulted in a pairing which provided effective crowd management at the Super Bowl.
