Retractable Belt Safety

June 6th, 2011

Tensabarrier® retractable belts offer a safe alternative to traditional retractable belts.

The Tensabarrier® retractable belt system is equipped with a state-of-the art braking system that reduces the belt retraction to a rate of about 5 miles per hour. The non-braking belt retraction system rates are approximately 14 miles per hour.

The Tensabarrier® braking system is a patented system that allows the retractable belt to fall to the floor as it slowly retracts, eliminating any whip-like action that can harm pedestrians.

The Tensabarrier® also has an anti-tamper release that will eliminate accidental releases by customers in your line queue.

To learn more about acquiring an effective  line management system that will suit your needs, call a crowd control specialist at the Tamis Corporation today – 1-800-448-2647.

Tamis Assists Nike Basketball Event

April 6th, 2011

During the NBA All-Star Weekend in February, Los Angeles’ Lower Grand Avenue tunnel was transformed into the “Nike Experience” and was the site of a special 2-on-2 basketball tournament.  Products from the Tamis Corporation – including crowd control barricades, stanchions, and chain link fence – helped create the experience.

Nike’s “Los Fearless” basketball tournament featured 64 two-man teams consisting of amateur players between 18-24 years old.  Games were played on 50-feet mini-courts.

Blockader barricades and chain link fencing were employed during the “secret” set up, which occurred the night before the event.  Fencing was set up around the courts and around the players’ lounge.  Tensabarrier portable posts and retractable belt stanchions were used to establish lines for spectators.

The Tamis products helped make the event run smoothly and exceeded the customer’s expectations, said Laura Poore, Senior Producer at Jack Morton Worldwide, the producer of the event.  The products were also utilized for other activities in the tunnel, such as a photo booth, and a special area for spectators to try on tennis shoes.

The event also featured special appearances by NBA stars Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers) and Derron Williams (Utah Jazz).

Thousands of NASCAR fans participate in the Coca-Cola Family Track Walks, and Blockader barricades are used for crowd control and directional purposes.  Many barriers are accessorized with vinyl jackets featuring the Coca-Cola Family Track Walk logo.

Walks will be held at five tracks during the 2011 NASCAR season: Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California; Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama; Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina; Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan; and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.

Blockader Barriers Serve Tennis Tournament

March 9th, 2011

When the top professional tennis players in the world gather in Miami from March 21 – April 3 for the Sony Ericsson Open, Blockader crowd control barriers will be there.

The tournament, which attracts more than 300,000 attendees over the course of two weeks, utilizes 150 Blockader barricades.  The interlocking steel barriers are placed in the upper levels of the Tennis Center at Crandon Park to create walkways to stairs.  They are also used to block off entrances to certain restricted areas.

Additionally, Blockader barriers are used in parking lots to designated line spaces for transportation vehicles which shuttle pedestrians to and from the tennis center grounds.

The Sony Ericsson Open is one of the largest and most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world.  The top-ranked men and women players, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Kim Clijsters, and Venus Williams, will compete in the 2011 tournament.

Some of the barriers on the grounds will feature vinyl barrier jackets showcasing the Sony Ericsson Open logo.  These will be placed in front of high-profile locations, such as the event’s VIP area.

The Miami tournament has employed Blockader barricades for line management and crowd management for more than a decade.

Tensabarriers Surround Dancers

March 2nd, 2011

In conjunction with the debut of the hot Xbox 360 video game “Dance Central” last November, Old Navy stores featured a Thanksgiving weekend promotion in which store visitors could try their hands (and feet) at the game.

In addition to prospective dancers, this promotion naturally attracted a crowd of onlookers.  In order to keep dancers safely separated from the crowd, Tensabarrier posts with retractable belts, supplied by The Tamis Corporation, were utilized in 400 Old Navy stores.

Two posts, with a belt stretching approximately eight feet between them, helped keep crowds in order, and prevented anyone from getting too close to any amateur dancer’s flailing limbs.  Tensabarrier posts, a popular line management and crowd management fixture at numerous locations, are easy to set up and convey a clean, efficient look at retail stores.

The use of Tensabarriers at the Dance Central sites at Old Navy stores was coordinated by Design Phase, a Waukegan, Illinois-based manufacturer of retail displays worldwide. The company worked with Old Navy on similar previous promotional events (such as demos of the Rock Band video game).  This was the first time a physical barrier such as Tensabarrier posts was needed in-store, due to the physical activity of Dance Central participants.
