Tamis Products Assist in Emergency Response to Superstorm Sandy

In the immediate aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, products supplied by The Tamis Corporation have contributed in service – assisting clean-up efforts, protecting emergency personnel, and maintaining public order and safety.

As one of the nation’s leading suppliers of directional devices, crowd management products, and traffic safety products, Tamis has long-standing contacts with FEMA, and with multiple state and municipal safety departments.  The morning after the storm, steel crowd control barriers and Plastic Jersey safety barriers were earmarked for heavily-impacted areas in New York and New Jersey, as well as other locations up and down the eastern seaboard.

Regularly used for crowd control and highway traffic control, Blockader barricades and Plastic Jersey barriers become vital emergency response tools in times of crisis or natural disaster.  Professionals responsible for public safety and security (whether at the local, state, or federal levels) know that Tamis always maintains an inventory of these products, and has logistical processes in place to quickly ship these products where they are needed.

Hours after the storm, public safety personnel turned to Tamis to supply Plastic Jersey highway barriers to establish road closings and re-direct traffic.  Barriers were also requested to replace railings along the Hudson River that were damaged by Sandy.

In emergency response situations, interlocking steel crowd control barriers are used to block off streets, surround temporary work sites, and maintain public order.  On Monday, New York City drew from its existing supply of these barriers to block off streets in the area of the collapsed construction crane.

Plastic Jersey barriers were also slated to be used to block off “no access” areas, protect areas in which public safety or maintenance personnel are working, and establish “walls” at the bottom of hillsides.

Throughout this difficult recovery process, Tamis will continue to provide quality and timely service needed to help keep those effected safe.
